Today is Epcot mop-up day, plus Space 220, the new fully-themed full service place at Epcot (next to Mission: Space). The theming here is no joke; you can't go in or leave without going up or down the space elevator, because the actual restaurant is 220 miles above the Earth (hence the name). This does give a great view of stinky ol' Earth, complete with astronauts and space ships flying by:
Well now what did we eat?? I'm glad you asked! Bring on the appetizers. Err, the "lift-offs"!
Susan: Centauri Caesar Salad - Miniature Romaine, Classic Caesar Dressing, Parmigiano Reggiano
The atmosphere was the winner. The Caesar salad was okay but on the bitter side.
Katie: I tried some and liked it so I might consider this in the future if I didn't like my own salad so much.
Katie: Space Greens - Bibb Lettuce, Dried Cranberries, Roasted Pears, Spiced Pecans, Apple Cider Dressing
I thought this was great! I appreciated that for once a restaurant didn't put one little sploosh of dressing on and called it finished. As you can see in the photo, they didn't skimp nor did they drown the bibb lettuce. I ate every bit of this salad and still wanted more.
Nick: Blue Moon Cauliflower - Tempura Fried Cauliflower, Housemade Hot Sauce, Blue Cheese Dust
I got this without the blue cheese dust because, barf. So apparently, I love tempura fried cauliflower with hot sauce??? Go figure. This was like... err... actually, this is really hard to describe. Imagine crunchy, breaded, fried cauliflower with hot sauce on it, and there you go. I really liked this, but it's suspect no. 1 in the 10-hour tummyache I had after eating here, so I don't know if this dish turned out to be a hero or a villain. If it's the latter, it was almost worth the ten-hour tummyache. Almost.
Now let's have some entrees! Er... "Star Course"s. Go!!!
Susan: Baked Maccheroni - Candele Pasta, Sausage Ragu, Broccolini, Sheep’s Milk Ricotta, Béchamel, Pecorino
The lasagna (or whatever it was called) was okay. Actually, the meat sauce was very good but some of the noodles were very very underdone.
Katie:
I agree with mom on the sauce, it was very good. I'm not sure if the macaroni was going for a really baked texture but it was definitely not a soft macaroni. I think I would order this next time to see how it compares.
Katie: Terra-Bolognese - Corn Linguine, Tempeh Ragu, Macadamia Nut “Ricotta,” Zucchini, Mushroom
While I did like this, I would definitely have improved it with more sauce. It may just be my personal preference, but I like each noodle (and...coodle? Is that what corn linguine would be called?) to be really covered in sauce. In the picture, you can see a dollop of sauce on top and some on the bottom but it was not enough for my preference. I had a fair amount of coodle pieces that maybe had a few drops of sauce. MOAR SAWCE PLZ.
It was good to have an option for people like me who can only handle small amounts of meat and more plant-based persons.
I don't know if we mentioned how the menu works so I'm going to digress here and explain it. Okay so for lunch, you pay a flat price (which is like 55 bucks I think for adults) and you get an appetizer and an entrée. Dessert for lunch is an extra fee. For dinner, I think you pay more but get dessert included onto your thing. So this is a MUST if you have kids and also a MUST if you're an adult who doesn't hate fun..and if you're an adult who hates fun, why are you going to Disney? Stay home and grinch it up in your own house and let the rest of us be pals with Mickey and Minnie.
Nick: Centauri Burger - Signature Beef Blend, White Cheddar Cheese, Bacon, Shredded Lettuce, Tomatoes, Fried Potato Wedges, Sriracha Aioli
I got this without the white cheddar cheese in the hopes of not upsetting my stomach (lol). I couldn't really taste the sriracha aioli, but even without it, this is just about the best burger I've ever eaten (and I guess at $55 it better be!!!!!). I don't really have much to say about the burger otherwise. Err, I normally don't like bacon on a burger but this was well done and tasted very, not to flex, but I'm going to say expensive. I would absolutely get this again. The "fried potato wedges" were basically an eighth of a potato cut lengthwise and then cooked to just a shade before charcoal, which I enjoyed immensely, although they did need ketchup for sure.
All right, let's eat some dessert in space!!!!
Susan: Lemon Mousse - Lemon Mousse Sphere adorned with White Chocolate Rings, Lemon Custard, Marinated Blueberries, Lemon Curd
The lemon dessert was okay. It was very lemony.
Nick: This looked spectacular with the chocolate rings, but I don't know if any of us really loved this. I thought it either needed to be more sour or more sweet; it was kind of in a middle zone where it didn't have a lot of taste, and it would have been better going more in one or the other direction. Not bad, but not my first choice.
Katie: I really liked the lemon flavor but I discovered with this dessert that the mousse texture is really, really not for me. I think a soft cheese cake or lemon tart would have hit all the buttons to make it excellent for my tastes. If you are a mousse person, this might be your new favorite.
Nick: Yes, you read that right, Katie wimped out and got the exotic, once in a lifetime VANILLA ICE CREAM. Come on. It's not even like, space ice cream. All right, Katie, defend your decision, if you can. Oh, and happy birthday!
Katie: I didn't think the rest of the desserts looked up my alley to be honest. I know, I know. Those of you reading
our other blog know how weird and picky I can be. I wanted a nice, safe dessert so I chose the vanilla gelato and I was not disappointed. The gelato was creamy and yummy so if you just want something you know you'll like at the end, the vanilla gelato is a good bet.
Mom planned a sweet lowkey birthday with the staff that I really enjoyed. Thanks, Mom!
Nick: Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake - Dark Chocolate Sauce, Caramel Crunchy Pearls, Salted Toffee Drizzle
WHOOH boy, this is a serious desert. It's not that big, but it's super duper rich. The toffee pudding cake itself is very rich, and they come and pour a ton of dark chocolate sauce which is also very rich on top of it. It's okay, though, this is actually healthy because it's not mentioned on the menu, but those two yellow lil' things on top are banana. I ate fruit, it's good for me! This was, I think, just a little too rich for me, plus it's suspect number two in my following ten-hour stomachache. I don't know what I ate at Space 220, but something left my tummy upset from 2-3 PM until just after midnight. All I was able to eat in between was a pack of saltines someone very kindly got for me, and most of the rest of the time at Epcot was spent in the bathroom texting sad bitmojis yelling "WHY" to Katie. It's possible it was the toffee from this desert - I had the same thing after eating ooey gooey toffee cake at Liberty Tree - but my suspicion is it was the appetizer.
Katie: This was...not for me. Not a fan.
In any case, we then took the space elevator back to Earth. I would definitely eat at Space 220 again; it's an experience, and I just need to learn which dishes to stay away from.
There's not much else to report today - we did Soarin', Living with the Land again, and Mission: Space. Oh, wait, did I say we did Living with the Land again??? Is there another collage or two coming????

WHY YES THERE IS ANOTHER COLLAGE OR TWO COMING |
